Summary

This page explains how to join the CAPIBARA Collaboration as a student at any level.

Applying for the GAMMA Team

If you already know you want to be in the GAMMA Science Team, there’s a dedicated page for that here. If you don’t want to apply to the GAMMA Science Team or are still unsure, continue reading this page about the general application.

Requirements

There are not technical requirements to apply to the CAPIBARA Collaboration and the application process is there, not to evaluate you profile, but to get to know each other and assign you to a group or specific tasks. Please be reminded that the CAPIBARA Collaboration accepts applications from all fields and we are looking forward to learn how you want to contribute to our projects. The following requirements are kept to a minimum, for example: english communication is fundamental to understanding each other in an international team.

  • Strong English communication (oral/written) is required for collaboration and outreach.
  • You must be a student from any level: high school to PhD. CAPIBARA sends a strong message since it is fully run by students, originally founded by high schoolers.
  • Be interested in a related field(s): you don’t have to bring in expertise already, you are here to learn! However, having an interest or topic you want to pursue makes it easier for you to contribute to the project. It doesn’t need to be STEM (physics, engineering), we are also looking for artists, social media creators, …

Recommended, but NOT required: strong academic record, experience in a specific field, GitHub/Python knowledge. These are not required, if you know them you will get started faster, but if don’t we’ll teach you!

Steps

You totally or partially fulfil the requirements? Then you should apply to the CAPIBARA Collaboration!

There is no selection process during the application, everyone who applies and fulfils the basic requirements can join, and we are happy to have you onboard.

To apply, visit our application website and fill in the form. Then, we’ll get in touch with you via email requesting, also via email, the signed membership agreement. If you are under 18 years, you will additionally need the signature of at least one of your parents or legal tutors. If you don’t hear from us after 14 days of your application, please apply again or get in touch with us.

After your application

To do so, first create a github user if you haven’t yet done so. GitHub has lots of great tools such as repositories, issues, pull requests, discussions, this might feel overwhelming at first. But don’t panic (!) you will learn this is a latter tutorial.

Finally, you need to send an email to the collaboration address including:

  • GitHub username: to invite you to the organisation
  • Short statement, CV, motivation letter (any documentation you may want to share, for use to assign you to a team/task better)
  • Depending on the team that you are joining you may need to provide more information. Pay attention to the invitation to join email.
