The Name
CAPIBARA or CAPIBARA Collaboration stands for Collaboration for the Analysis of Photonic and Ionic Bursts and Radiation.
1. Mission & Structure
CAPIBARA exists to explore the high-energy cosmos through multi-messenger analysis and is fully led by students. We are currently conducting two primary projects:
- CAPIBARA-CRD: Cosmic Ray Detector Instrument
- CAPIBARA-GAMMA: -ray Astrophysics
2. Joining the Team
We look for curiosity and a hour/week commitment (or more). You don’t need a degree or coding experience to start, this is a collaboration where students learn. Our members aren’t exclusively from physics or engineering background, we also need science communicators for instance.
- Apply: Follow the instructions provided in Applying to Join to join the group.
- Active Status: You stay an “active member” as long as you contribute significantly (code, docs, or meetings) at least once every quarter.
3. Privacy & Data
We keep it simple, we only collect what’s needed to collaborate (Name, Email, GitHub handle).
- Public: Your GitHub activity and contributions are permanent and public. These are subject to GitHub Privacy and Data Policies.
- Private: Your email address, communications (e.g., E-Mails), personal information are stored in private GitHub repositories (including the signed membership form) and never shared with third parties.
- Retention: If you leave, we delete personal data within 90 days upon request, though GitHub history remains.
- Website: Information you provide for your website profile is publicly available and is stored in a GitHub repository. Our website is hosted with GitHub, terms and policies apply.

Forms
When information is submitted via one of the multiple forms on our website is it forwarded to the CAPIBARA collaboration official email address. However, it is first processed for SPAM by the Formspree service, their terms and privacy policies apply. We regularly delete inforamtion from the portal.
4. Safety & Minors
Because we include high school students and are 100% remote, we maintain strict safety rules:
- No private DMs: All communication with members under 18 must happen in group channels (GitHub discussions and chats).
- Parental Consent is required for all members under 18 to join.
- Reporting: Any conduct violations should be reported to the official collaboration email.
5. Changes to This Policy
We update our policies as the collaboration grows and needs change:
- Minor Updates: Minor changes for clarity and formatting will be posted directly to GitHub.
- Major Updates: For significant changes to membership or privacy rules, we will email all members and provide a 30-day notice period.
- Consensus: Policy changes are ideally reached by majority consensus to ensure they serve the whole community.
- Acceptance: Continued participation in the colaboration after updates are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policies.
6. Miscelanious
To ensure our research is held accountable for, members agree to:
- Authorship & Credit: Members are eligible for authorship on papers they significantly contribute to. All work must accurately track contributions for fair attribution (GitHub).
- Confidentiality: Members must keep unpublished research, internal data, and sensitive discussions confidential until they are cleared for public release. We try to keep all of our repositories public, but this is especially important for private repositories and personal data.
- Open Source Standards: We use GitHub as our “single source of truth,” following the workflow outlined in the Contributing Guide to ensure reproducibility.
- Professionalism: Follow the Code of Conduct in all space, including informal ones when discussing CAPIBARA work.
